OBD ii Scan A Self-Diagnostic System

On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) is an automotive term referring to the vehicle's self-diagnostic operational system. OBD system provides the status of the vehicle's sub-systems. The primary function of the system is to monitor and regulate the performance of the vehicle. The On-Board Diagnostic software reads and communicates the diagnostic information provided by the car. An OBD adapter is attached to the vehicle's OBD2 port to enable the communication between the vehicle and computer/mobile. The adapter acts as a bridge between the vehicle and the computer.

Initially, the first On-Board diagnostic system was introduced in the early 1980s. The early models illuminated light to indicate malfunction within the vehicle. Though the system determined the problem, it could not indicate or provide any other form of information about the problem. At present, the modern diagnostic systems are equipped with modernized and standardized digital communication port. The modern OBD system detects the problem and provides detailed information and remedy malfunctions within the car.

The updated version is known as the OBD ii scan. It is composed of two different types of systems. The code reader for car delivers a basic diagnostic scan. It is, however, limited to access to only certain types of information and data. The scan tools or the Scanner OBD2 is an advanced version that can provide comprehensive access to recorded and live data. It also provides advanced data reading, diagnostic procedures; customize a list of parameters, and more. Though the scan tool may be the expensive version, it provides comprehensive and detailed information beyond just a simple code reader.

The OBD software, whether it is built into the vehicle, handheld, or wireless, can help to diagnose many vehicle repairs. It is beneficial for auto technicians and vehicle owners to inexpensively self-diagnose and save a fortune on the future repair. The diagnostic system is compatible with most of the US-based vehicles that were manufactured on or after 1996. It is also compatible with European and Asian vehicles manufactured in or after 2001 and 2008, respectively.
